New ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25: compact, wide-angle lens for photography on the go
For photographers who value flexibility when they are on the road but do not want to compromise on image quality, ZEISS has introduced a new focal length for its ZEISS Loxia family of lenses.
The ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 is a compact wide-angle lens specially designed to work with digital full-frame cameras from the Sony Alpha series (E mount). With high resolution across the entire image, low distortion and a state-of-the-art optical design, the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 guarantees perfect imaging results every time.
A lighter load
Exploring a city, capturing diverse street scenes and interesting architecture, or discovering new and surprising places in nature often entails long periods on foot or in vehicles. Therefore, it is natural that photographers want to minimize the amount of gear they carry in order to focus on their surroundings and motifs — but without compromising on image quality. For these situations, the new ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 is the ideal companion.
For the Sony A7 camera series
The ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 is packed with high tech and has a state-of-the-art optical design, ensuring exceptional imaging performance. Constructed according to the Distagon design, the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 includes the ZEISS floating elements design, which compensates for aberrations at different distance settings. The lens’s complex, high-quality mechanical parts are perfectly attuned to the camera functions of the Sony A7 camera series.
Furthermore, the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 lens is small, light and robust, hallmarks that all lenses in the Loxia family share. It is therefore perfect for shooting street scenes and groups of people, situations when a photographer may not want to stand out.
Clay Patrick McBride, a New York City-based photographer, tested the new 25-mm focal length and was enthusiastic. “Two things really matter when you take a picture: where you stand and when you press the button. With a wide lens like the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25, I feel much closer to the people I photograph,” he said.
The ideal travel companion
The modest proportions of the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 are another big plus, especially for photographers who travel frequently. Its compact size means users can always be confident they have a versatile, all-around lens at their side which provides a high degree of flexibility, no matter what they encounter on the road.
Discerning photographers who want maximum creative and artistic freedom when composing their images will appreciate the precise manual focusing of the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25. This feature also makes the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 lens a great tool for shooting video too. With their de-clicked iris the Loxia lenses are a perfect match for independent filmmakers who count on premium image quality.
Like all the lenses in the Loxia family, the new 25-mm focal length can be used with a follow focus system. All lenses in the Loxia family have the same diameter. Switching between the different focal lengths and applying follow focus gears during a shoot are therefore quick and easy.
Now five focal lengths in Loxia family
Whether for photos or video, the ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 is designed to excel across a wide range of applications. “It strikes just the right balance between compact design and high speed and promises exceptional imaging results,” said Casenave.
The ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 is the fifth focal length in the Loxia family of lenses, which ranges from 21 to 85 mm. Professionals and ambitious amateurs now have even greater choice and more possibilities to express their creativity.
The ZEISS Loxia 2.4/25 will be available starting March 2018 on both the ZEISS Webshop and at dealers. The lens will cost EUR 1,299 (including German VAT) or USD 1,299 US dollars (excluding local taxes). The lens hood is included with purchase. Filmmakers who buy a set with all five ZEISS Loxia focal lengths will benefit from a special offer.
